AmérAsia and Ciné-Asie are proud to present North America's own talent. These films are a first step for many of these artists' future film careers. In this category, AmérAsia brings you ten short films each with a unique theme. These filmmakers and animators exhibit an extraordinary amount of passion and ability for creation. Talented and from various Asian cultural backgrounds (China, Indonesia, Singapore, and Canada) they all have a shared passion for cinema that will capture a few minutes of your life.  Bon Cinéma.

This short documentary profiles a different tool for getting work. In an immigrant-rich society, the agency Voice job offers an alternative to the traditional job search.

Mila Aung-Thwin
A Canadian documentary filmmaker. Aung-Thwin is involved in the arts; journalism, photography and the political activism scene. Currently, he is the vice-president of the Montreal based production company EyeSteelFilm which specializes in documentary filmmaking.


Rondo
Metaphor of the perpetual resumption of daily life, from the musical theme of the rondo. Struggles, routines and values are all questioned. It's our turn to build our ideal life.

Yin Ko Lee
Born in Hong Kong and currently based in Montreal.  After graduating from Concordia University, he has worked on numerous TV commercials, music video projects, and short animations. "Rondo" is Lee's debut film as a director.


Folding
Folding was developed by Luigi Allemano at the National Film Board of Canada in 2007 and completed in 2008 as a Concordia University Graduate Certificate project. It's a single channel version of a stereoscopic (3D) animation and installation about origami.

Alison Reiko Loader
A native Ontarian, and Japanese Canadian filmmaker/ animator, Alison Reiko Loader studied at Concordia University. Won a National Film Board of Canada award for her student work. After graduation she worked on various films in Canada and Japan. Currently, Alison is expressing and expanding her art to video.


I'm in the Mood for Love
A singing telegram worker meets his ex-boyfriend while having hot pot and learns to embrace new found bachelorhood through popular song.

Jason Karman
Born in Indonesia, Jason Karman earned a cinematography degree at Capilano University and also holds a science degree from the University of Calgary. He has won awards at the following festivals: Kitsilano Film Festival in Vancouver and Cine-Asie National Protrait contest in Montreal.


I Was a Child of Holocaust Survivors
An adaptation of Bernice Eisenstein's acclaimed illustrated memoir. The film weaves together personal and global history.

Ann Marie Fleming
Ann Marie Fleming is an award-winning filmmaker and writer based in Vancouver. Her family, history, and memory are a common themes in her work. She uses a cinematic device to connect these themes in her films.


In the Depth of Summer
Set in a small town in southern China, during the rainy season, the film "In the Depth of Summer" collects the fragments of Khan's first love experience from the perspective of an older Khan.

Aonan Yang
A Chinese-Canadian citizen and member of Green Ground Productions, based in Montreal. Aonan, a recent Concordia graduate, has presented his short films at many prominent film festivals including the Montreal World Film Festival


Marvin Parson's Inner Wild Wilderness
Filmmaker Fred Casia takes us on a bizarre 3-D safari through the jungle of the inner human digestive system, without any dialogue.

Fred Casia
A native to Montreal, Fred Casia works as a professional graphic designer, illustrator, artist and animator, with his company Momunit. He is involved in the following artistic collaborative efforts: The YPF, The Parnell Collective & En Masse, mural painting and installation artwork.


Nature on its Course
"Nature on its Course" is a short mixed-media animation about a careless hunter who takes more than he needs. It is a reminder to viewers to respect the environment and not to underestimate the forces of nature.

Su-An Ng
Originally from Singapore and now based in Vancouver, Su-An Ng is a recent graduate of the Emily Carr University in Art and Design. Her passion as a multidisciplinary artist aids her in creating interesting and vibrant works.


Si Haute, La Lune
Dans un futur rapproché, la terre se déserte de ses habitants. Manny, un vieil homme ayant accepté son sort, caresse pourtant toujours un vieux rêve de jeunesse qui pourrait se concrétiser avec la construction d'une gigantesque tour pointant vers les étoiles. Dans un monde complexe, sa réalité restera un reflet de la nôtre, de nos forces, de nos faiblesses et de nos rêves.

Nguyen-Anh Nguyen
Nguyen-Anh Nguyen est né à Saigon, Vietnam et a emménagé au Québec à l'âge de six ans. Il a tout d'abord complété un doctorat en médecine dentaire à l'université de Montréal avant d'entamer des études en production cinématographique à l'université Concordia. Avec deux collègues de classe, il a fondé GreenGround Productions en 2008, une maison de production canadienne récipiendaire de nombreux prix internationaux


Without Wings
Without Wings rejoices in the amazing ways the human body is able to defy gravity and achieve flight (if only for a moment) without wings

Jo Meuris
After receiving her BFA in Animation from Concordia, she worked at the National Film Board of Canada for six years. In 2006, Jo moved to Los Angeles and received her MFA from UCLA. Her latest film PK-Granny has been viewed around the world.


The 3651st Day
The last day of a ten-year marriage between Rong and Xiang, who were in love since their college years.

Mingxuan Zhu
Mingxuan Zhu is currently working as a freelance assistant director for TV commercials. As her first action film The 3651st Day Zhu seeks an opportunity to break into the film industry.
