Synopsis
Hae-sun, a maiden of a seashore village, got married but rapidly becomes a widow.
A wanderer, Sang-su, falls in love with Hae-sun, who is unable to do any work, for he paralyzed with love for her. Hae-sun turns down Sang-su when he asks her to leave the village with him. But when her mother-in-law finds out about them, Hae-sun leaves the village. Hae-sun and Sang-su go from market to market.
When they meet their friend Kim, they follow him to the mountains. Sang-su discovers some mountain ginseng but loses it to Kim through his trickery. Tired of the wandering life, Hae-sun develops a strong yearning for the ocean.
Bio
Known as the 'master of literary films', director KIM Soo-yong made 109 films over 40 years. Pioneering the 'youth film' and putting comedy on the map of Korean cinema, KIM Soo-yong mastered traditional storytelling via genre films and developed them into more sophisticated forms. The Cinematic style he created is replete with beautiful imagery and concise storytelling, which ventured into new territory in 1967.
